Cillian Murphy's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Return
A Zombie's Unexpected Comeback: Cillian Murphy Returns to the Iconic Franchise
Cillian Murphy, the actor who captivated audiences in the groundbreaking zombie franchise, is back with a surprising twist in "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple." But here's where it gets intriguing: despite the title, it's not a superhero comeback story. Instead, it's a quiet, yet powerful moment that marks Murphy's return as the beloved bike messenger, Jim.
In this sequel to the iconic film, Murphy reprises his role as Jim, the courier who woke up from a coma to find a desolate London in the hands of the Rage virus. But this time, the story takes a different turn. After a thrilling climax with Ralph Fiennes' Dr. Kelson and Jack O'Connell's Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal, the film shifts to a new setting, revealing Murphy's Jim living in relative safety, possibly in the same remote cottage he was left in at the end of the original film.
Director Nia DaCosta, working from Alex Garland's script, wanted to ground the story in a subtle, yet impactful way. "It's not a big 'return of the superhero' franchise moment," she explains. "It's the return of the bike messenger."
And it seems the audience agreed. Early screenings of the film had audiences cheering, and it's easy to see why. Murphy's voice, in a subtle scene, appears early on, reminding fans of the franchise's origins. The director even pays homage to the original film's eerie track, "In a Heartbeat," composed by John Murphy.
But the big question remains: is this the end of Jim's story? Thankfully, Sony has already greenlit a follow-up, with Garland back on writing duties. And while DaCosta may not be directing the next installment, one thing is clear: Danny Boyle has already claimed his spot in the franchise's future.
So, will we see more of Murphy's Jim? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure: this unexpected comeback has left fans eager for more.
