Viral Video Leads to Arrest: Man Remanded Over iPhone 14 Pro Max Robbery in Accra (2026)

A shocking viral video has led to the remand of a 35-year-old man, Daniel Koranteng, accused of a daring phone robbery. But here's where it gets controversial...

The video, which went viral, showed Koranteng's arrest and revealed a potential pattern of similar offenses. This led to a court appearance, where he denied the charges.

Koranteng, a self-employed businessman, is alleged to have stolen an iPhone 14 Pro Max worth a staggering GH¢10,300. The incident took place on October 3rd, when the complainant, Madam Mercy Boakye Kwakyewaa, was approached by Koranteng and his accomplice, Frank, in a Toyota Highlander.

Madam Kwakyewaa, a businesswoman residing near Baatsonaa Spintex, was walking to buy airtime when the accused asked for directions. In a clever ploy, Koranteng asked her to save his phone number on her iPhone, and in a swift move, snatched the phone and drove off.

However, fate had other plans. The viral video, which showed Koranteng's arrest, also revealed that he had been involved in an accident while trying to escape. This led to a search of his vehicle, where police recovered not just the stolen iPhone, but also two other iPhones and a concealed vehicle registration plate.

During investigations, Koranteng claimed the phone belonged to his friend Frank, who was allegedly in Ghana to sell phones. But here's the part most people miss: Koranteng failed to provide any evidence or assist the police in locating this friend, raising further suspicions.

As a result, Koranteng was ordered by the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Madam Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, to reappear on December 3, 2025. His accomplice, Frank, is still on the run.

This case has sparked debates and raised questions about the prevalence of phone theft and the tactics used by criminals. It also highlights the power of viral videos in bringing justice and the importance of community awareness.
